Q - What is the cost of online courses?
A -
  • Online trade courses for registered apprentices are $82.80 per course.
  • Online trade courses for non-registered apprentices are $270.00 per course.
  • Online Gasfitter program modules (NOT Courses) for apprenticeship clients are $150.00 per module.
*Prices subject to change without notice.

* Before registration in an online trade course of a non-apprentice, approval must be received fromthe Manager of Apprenticeship, Kevin Gerrior, at 491-3516. This approval process may require one to two business days. Online learning will provide the student with an approval document (email or fax) that will state name of course and unique class number that he/she will use for registration purposes.

Q - Do I need an email address to register for online courses?
A - It is imperative that all online students have a valid email address. If you do not have an email address you will be assigned one.

Q - When are the courses available?
A - In the list of Current Course Offerings (also pointed to in previous question) start dates for the courses are also listed. Those that do not have start dates begin on the day you register for the course and are available for registration at any time. To view the list of Current Course Offerings click here.

Students registered in online courses have 24-7 access to them via the Internet.

Q - How do I register for an online course?
A - Registration may be done in two ways.
  • Walk In Registration - At any campus of the Nova Scotia Community College.
  • Phone In Registration - Admissions Centre hours are Monday to Thursday (8:00 am to 6:00 pm ) and Friday (8:00 am to noon). Metro: 491-4911, Outside Metro: 1-866-679-6722.

Q - Can students pay with a credit card or debit card?
A - You may pay with cash, debit card or credit card in person at your local campus. You may pay with credit card only if you use phone in registration.

Q - Can part time students take a Core Online course?
A - If a part time student wishes to register into an Online Core course, the student must first see the Registrar at the campus he or she is registering for approval to enroll. The registrar will enroll the student into the class.

A - If you are currently enrolled as a full-time student at any campus of the NSCC you will have an I.D. card from that campus. If you are currently taking only online courses, contact any of the 13 campuses for information on getting an ID card.

A - Textbooks are obtained from the bookstores. Once you have registered in a course, login and view the introductory materials. The materials you need for your course will be listed there.

Q - What will the courses be like?
A - The courses offered through online learning will follow an Alternate Delivery framework. In this way, each course or program may be slightly different and may utilize different aspects of the available delivery mechanisms coordinated through Online Learning. Courses may include some aspect of web-based delivery and computer mediated learning, Internet-streamed videos, Internet-streamed presentations, online interactive tutorials, computer mediated conferencing, audio-graphic conferencing, limited video conferencing, self directed study, as well as a diversity of other learning methods.

Q - How long will I have to complete an online course?
A - Courses other than the Apprenticeship Trade courses have specific start and end dates, which usually correspond to the academic terms. Online Apprenticeship Trade courses have scheduled end dates that are three months from the day that the student enrolled in the courses.

Q - How do I write exams in online courses?
A - There are midterms and/or final exams to be written in most of the online courses offered by the NSCC. These exams must be written under supervision. To book time at your local Campus to write an online course exam you must contact your course instructor. Under certain circumstances arrangements may be made to have exams proctored outside the NSCC Campuses. Please contact your instructor or call Online Learning at toll free 1-877-491-6774 or locally 491-6774 for help to make these alternate arrangements.
