TESTING FOR ONLINE LEARNERS
Proctored Testing
Proctored testing is required in many of the online courses. Test/exam descriptions and testing timelines are provided by you, the course Instructor. The Students have access to the testing requirements by checking their course outlines for details.
Choosing a Test Proctor
It is the student's responsibility to identify a test proctor prior to or during the first few weeks of class. A proctor may already be in place depending on their location.
- If it is convenient for the student they may go to one of the NSCC campuses to have their tests/exams proctored. An appointment is necessary and the tests are administered as space is available. The student needs to make this appointment at least a week in advance of the time they wish to write. The students may look on the sidebar section in the TLM for the list of campus contacts for proctoring.
- If the student does not fit into the above category they are advised how to set up a test session with an external proctor.
Go to "How to select an External Test Proctor for Your Online Course", to see how a student would get set up with an external proctor.
If a student uses an external proctor they are advised that any cost for proctoring is the responsibility of the student.
If approved by the Instructor, the external test proctor is notified of this approval. The document "External Proctor Responsibilities" outlines the duties of the external proctor on the day of the test.
External Test Proctors
As the course facilitator you play an important role in the search for, and approval of, an external proctor for your students.
The document "Criteria for Approving a Proctor" is given to the student so that they may be successful in choosing a qualified person to be their test proctor.
Check out "External Proctor Responsibilities" to see what the External Proctors are accountable for.
Check out your responsibilities as the course facilitator in this process at "Facilitator Responsibilities/External Proctors".
