Visual Design and Format

To ensure our content is accessible to all students, and provides everyone with equitable opportunities, we need to make sure that our material is designed in a way that is easy for all students to access and read. Font type, colour and size must be easy to read on the screen, and course content (including images, audio and video) must be accessible to all students.

Font

Style: Sans serif font style (default in Brightspace or Arial) is used for all content being viewed on the screen.

Colour: Dark grey font colour is the default in Brightspace.

Size: 14 pt is the font size for headings and 12 pt to 14 pt for the body. Footnotes, credits or references can be smaller.

Formatting: Bold text is used when emphasizing a word, phrase, or section of text. To avoid confusion, underlining is only used for links.

Course Content

All course materials are produced using accessible Microsoft tools, PDF or HTML Format. Scanned files cannot be read by a screen reader.

All course materials are written in clear, simple language.

Images

Alternative text is used for all images in the course, including those in course materials, if they are used to convey information about a piece of content (not decorative).

Tools and Software

All tools used to present course materials are easily accessible to all NSCC students.

Video and Audio

All videos have closed captioning and are linked or embedded in the course OR embedded in the course as mp4 videos with scripts provided.

All audio is recorded in Brightspace or uploaded in mp3 format. Easy to do with this free online voice recorder.
