Structure & Navigation

The following guidelines will ensure students can easily find all course content and navigate throughout the course easily.

Course Structure

The course has logically sequenced modules that each contain a description of what you will find in the module. The modules may reflect the topics or outcomes in the course and the chronological way you move through the course.

Naming Convention

Module and content (files, assignments, quizzes, etc) titles are descriptive and consistent so students can easily find the course content and evaluations.

Module Structure

Modules include all activities and evaluations for the topic and are consistently organized. Everything the students need to complete a module (resources, links) is located in the module.

To ensure link navigation is consistent and predictable, check that:

  • All links work properly.
  • Linked words (instead of the URL itself) are used to describe the url and are bolded and underlined. The words make link navigation easier for students using screen readers.
  • Links are set up to open in a new window. Students can easily go back and forth between the linked information and Brightspace.
